…a cure for the common cold

January 30, 2008 – 10:52 am

anyone know one?

my wife came home from work last night at about 6pm. my dad and i were working in the bathroom laying some tile, and she comes in and says “i think i’m getting sick.” up until this point, i felt perfectly healthy. i even told her “stay away from me,” in a totally loving way of course, but i hate being sick.

no less than fifteen minutes later i felt my throat starting to bunge up, and junk start to accumulate in my sinuses. unbe-freakin-lievable.

between my wife coughing through the night and my inability to breathe combined with the fires of hell raging in my throat, neither of us got much sleep last night.

so, here i sit at home, in my bed, sick. wishing it would go away. i can’t really talk that effectively, which has already cost me a phone call i was really looking forward to from a photographer and blogging-friend down in florida about a project of his i may be getting involved in.

bleh… i hate being sick. i don’t have time in my life to be sick.

i wonder if we have any chicken noodle soup…

  4. Well, I can’t say that it’ll actually “cure” your cold, but this is what I do when I’m sick and I want to be able to at least function:

Step 1: Mucinex D (the kind you have to get from a Pharmacist. Don’t buy the stuff on the shelf, it doesn’t work as well)

Step 2: Decongestant Nose Spray to unplug the inflamed nostrils.

You should now be able to breathe.

Step 3: TONS OF WATER - all the medication will dehydrate you. And hopefully the water will flush out your system and all the icky along with it.

Since I’ve been doing this, I haven’t gotten a single sinus infection after my colds (I always got one after a cold). Be careful with the nose spray though - it can be addictive. I usually try to do two or three days on, then one day off to make sure I don’t become dependent on it.

Hope you guys feel better! Mucinex D rox!

  5. josh - we did this for you at my house before when you were sick. lay on one side. drip hydrogen peroxide in, let it sit for 20 minutes. ROLL OVER - IT DRIPS OUT! put some in other ear. 20 more minutes. do this 4 times a day. one of my docs recommends this for people with viruses. i’ll bring some over after my lunch appointment…

  10. You know, I’ve also heard good things about Vicks on the feet. I haven’t personally tried it, but hey, if you’re that sick, it’s worth a shot.
