…well that was different

in the interest of full-disclosure, for the 1% of you that visit this site and don’t know it, i work for a non-denominational christian church. i am a bible-believing follower of jesus.

so, when american idol ended it’s “idol gives back” show tonight with a worship song called “shout to the lord,” i was more than a little surprised. shocked, would be a better word.

it’s not that i don’t appreciate it, i actually thought it was a really great song to end the evening. david cook stole the song, even though carly fought hard for it… it was david cook who came through as the star of it. but that’s not the point. the point is; i’m curious who’s idea that was, and why? it just seems like a strange choice from a secular stand point. and, the inter-webs are already blowing up from the anti-christian’s bashing idol for the choice. which, by the way… i find highly entertaining.

here is the video if you missed it:

so, what do you think?

…the cure for a common cold

tiny warcraft

i am not going to lie… being sick is not nearly as bad when you have enough strength to at least sit upright and play world of warcraft. this is my cat tiny, helping me get three levels in one day (56-59).

i had an incredible stroke of divine intervention, where a volunteer who seldom serves anymore due to a crazy work schedule was suddenly able to fill in for me at church this weekend. so i stayed home today, and did little else other than rest, play world of warcraft, and eat/drink. i did manage to summon the strength to do some dishes for my wife. bless her soul, she’s been cleaning all by herself this week… it was the least i could do.

what do you do when you’re sick and stuck at home?

…quote of the day // part two

Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.”

name the movie… bonus points if you name the person this quote originated from (hint, it’s not from the movie)

so far, the score is rev.todd - 1, everyone else - 0.

no googling allowed! so what’s your answer?

…seven days

i watched the two hour marathon of office reruns tonight. i can’t begin to express how happy i am that new episodes start in just seven days. until then, enjoy this promo.

what’s your favorite tv show, currently and all-time?

…worth a thousand words

…a mixtape, from me to you.

if any of you have ever wondered; “hmm, i wonder what joshua is listening to these days…”

well, i have an answer for you!

http://loveisgreaterthan.muxtape.com/

eight songs that have been in my heavy rotation. i’d like you to listen to them, and if you like my tape, maybe we can be “more than friends.” after all, the sacred act of giving someone a mixtape (or cd, in these changing times) is not something to be taken lightly!

so, my heart is exposed…

will you go out with me? circle one:

yes — no — maybe

…best. idol. performance. ever.

in the interest of full disclosure, i feel it necessary to point out to everyone that this is a cover of chris cornell’s cover of michael jackson’s “billie jean.” so, it’s not an original “cover” (whatever that means.) nonetheless, best american idol performance i’ve yet seen.

…the lion king musical

ryanne and i went to see the lion king at the stranahan tonight.

first and foremost, i am begging someone to build a new theater in toledo. the stranahan’s acoustics are awful. this is three straight musics i’ve been to where i have nothing else to blame for bad audio anymore than the building itself.

anyway. our seats were incredible. i don’t know how ryanne’s grandmother scored them, but we were dead center, ten rows from the stage. i have never had such good seats for anything!

let me start with the good stuff…

the music was incredible. the woman who played rafiki must be really from africa, because her swahili was about as authentic as i can imagine. they could have just had her sing, along with the rest of the african music, for three straight hours and it would have been worth the price of admission.

the stage production was sweet. they did some really cool stuff with lighting and shadows, in addition to raising the rear of the stage to portray a larger depth of field that i thought worked really well.

the percussion players, who stayed out of the pit and out on either side of the stage, were really good too. they were only slightly distracting to the show however, as i found myself watching them every so often instead of what was happening on stage.

overall i thought the actors did quite well.

but, here’s my issues…

i LOVED “the lion king” movie growing up. i own on it dvd, and still watch it every once in a while to this day. due to this, i think i went in with some preconceived notions about what i expected. to be fair to the musical, i don’t think it would be possible for it to do anything different that could have fulfilled those expectations.

i have a very low “cheese-tolerance” level. and this musical crossed it early, and often. every part that used ballet, some of the costumes… it was just tough for me sometimes.

overall, i give the entire night a solid b+. the music was just so solid that it completely makes up for any other issues i had with it.
