…chick flicks and moves

We rented “Catch and Release” tonight. Obviously Ryanne was in charge of picking a movie from Blockbuster, as the “chick flick” isn’t high on my list of movies to see. Granted, there have been a few that have been pretty decent; Failure to Launch, Just Like Heaven, and Last Holiday are a few that come to mind. Nevertheless, this movie had Kevin Smith in it, so I was a little less hesitant about watching it. I was rewarded for my willingness, as it turned out to be quite an enjoyable movie. It actually spent less time being a “chick flick” and more time being a comedy, with a good heart, and an amazing soundtrack.

More importantly, this movie reinforced something that has been stirring in my soul for years… the desperate desire to move out of Toledo, and Ohio altogether. The movie took place in Boulder, Colorado, and I swear on all things holy this place was my dream home. Now I know, it’s a movie and it’s the film makers job to make the place look amazing — but I’ve spent a far amount of time now researching the place, and believe me, we will live there some day.

It’s perfect, a small city (just over 100,000) nestled in the mountains, thirty-five miles northwest of Denver. They’re known for their culture, farmers markets, and outdoor activities. This appeals to me on so many levels, I wouldn’t even know where to begin. The least of which is the fact that if I were a highly active person, my outdoor activity of choice would undoubtedly be hiking. And with my current life-change plan, I intend on being an avid hiker in a few years.

The problem? Cost of living is 34% higher there than it is here, with only a 2.8% wage increase over Toledo, Ohio. I told you, I’ve been doing research. Pretty standard three bedroom houses go for over $250,000… so until I hit my dream of breaking into the film or television industry (all I want to do is make movie trailers!), it’s a far-off dream. So no worries, I’m not going anywhere… yet.
