…death would be welcome!
two am this morning i woke up with the worst pain (literally, i am not embellishing here) i have ever felt in my life. right behind my left eye, my left side of my brain literally felt like it was going to explode at any moment. i have never had a migraine in my life, not once… and generally my headaches are annoying, but nothing worth getting upset over.
this one had me so disorientated and messed up, that as i crawled out of bed to head to the bathroom and take some advil, i nearly fell over. after taking advil, i came back to the bed and just sat on the side of the bed for about ten minutes, nearly in tears it hurt so bad. i prayed to jesus that i could just fall back asleep and sleep off the pain. finally, after about a half hour of excruciating pain, i finally fell back asleep.
I was telling ryanne about it this morning, and had i not spent four years as a medic, and if the pain would have been just a smidgen worse, we would have gone to the hospital. i know enough, and think logically enough that my eyeball wasn’t really going to explode, that i probably wasn’t suffering a stroke or a sudden tumor… even though i had never had a migraine before and it was a totally random time to have one (without warning, no less), i was pretty positive that’s all it was.
nevertheless, if that never ever happens again, i’ll be ok with it.
I’m still struggling a bit. the sharpness has gone away, but there is still this lower powered dull thumping. i think the medication is working, otherwise i’d still feel helpless.
what’s the worst pain you’ve ever felt? physical… i don’t want to hear your whiney stories about emotional hurt ;-) … just kidding.

It would be the time I woke up at 5am with the worst kidney stone I’ve ever had. Most I could deal with, but this one forced me to wake up my wife and take me to the emergency room. It passed before they had to give me morphine for the pain, but, like you, if I never have another one, I’ll be perfectly okay with it.
Got a spinal tap. Funny thing is, that wasn’t the worse pain.
The pain was when the puncture they made in my spind didn’t seal itself.
When that happens, the fluid leaks out of your spinal column. Bad thing since that is what your brain floats in.
What happens then, is your brain settles on your skull. And when you go to stand up you are greeted with a pain that makes you puke and puts you on your knees.
That pain I would not wish on my worst enemy.
Sorry to hear about your pain. Hope you’re feeling better. Labor was the worst (for me). More on that fresh after the blessed event:
