…greatest political ad of all time, or artists being silly?

you be the judge… my thoughts are below, but watch the video first.

i really don’t like it when people think that just because someone is famous, specifically musicians and actors, they shouldn’t have an opinion. it’s as if they believe that once someone gets famous, they have no more intelligence to add to the national conversation. they have no more passion they are allowed to exude for things other than bling and ho’s.

i don’t buy it.

sure, they have a platform to use their power for bad and to influence people in the wrong direction. but they also have platform to use their power for good, and influence people in a positive direction. obviously, people are going to be biased either way after watching this video being as how it’s reflective of barack obama.

here’s what i think. regardless of how you feel about obama as a politician, i don’t believe ANYONE can deny the man inspires people. he is one of the most gifted and eloquent speakers to come around in a long time. and whether or not you believe he can live up to some of the changes he promises when or if he enters the whitehouse, that doesn’t change the fact that the man has some serious skills behind the microphone. i like to believe (because i am an obama supporter) that the talk will be backed up by a walk, but that is my opinion and i am not telling you that you need to agree.

what i am saying, is that i believe this video will stir people, one way or another. i believe we are going to see the biggest outpouring of people my age voting in this election than ever before. for the first time, we have an election where the “youth” of the nation feels compelled to go out and vote. more than ever, we feel like our voices MUST be heard.

in barack obama, we have a politician we actually believe in… someone my generation feels has not yet been corrupted by washington politics, someone who is naive (or optimistic, depending on how you look at it) enough to believe that he can and will carry through on these ideals.

i hear a lot of people put obama down because of his lack of experience. the fact that he has more elected official experience than hillary aside, the fact that he is young and a first-term senator are PRIME reasons why i AM voting for him. he’s still got the fire! and more than anything else i believe america needs a president who is on FIRE for this nation. he can surround himself with all the experienced advisors anyone could ever wish for… so i don’t buy that excuse either.

2008 is a year for hope. a year for change. in my short life i have never felt more hope from a politician than i have from barack obama.

yes we can.

bring on the comments…

The problem is not that they have nothing to say, the problem is they have a platform in which to say it.

Don’t we all want a soapbox to stand upon?

  2. Addison

First of all, I agree with you 100% about how smooth of a talker Obama is. He is polished! I also think, whether you are a celebrity or not, you should be able to stand up and say whatever you want. I think it is smart and powerful to have an MTV style video with pimp editing. I would do that for my man if I was cool.

…but as for change… um, yeah. The only change that I can see is that we spend ourselves into oblivion sooner. We “change” the speed into losing our national sovereignty and losing the value of our currency.

    see site below.

It may sound wierd, but it is the truth. I am not voting for myself, I am voting for my kids, their kids, and their kids. We need a change in the OPPOSITE direction. Sure the Bush character blew it… but that doesnt mean we should blow it some more. We should fix what is screwed up. Not add more folks to the “free” hand outs.

Rick Warren from Saddleback understands Austrian economics and what’s up over at the Mises Institute. He understands a little about “bigger govt”… see below.

And Baracks “change” when it comes to Iraq… is, um, well, um, no promise to come home before 20013?!?!?! That is awesome. At least the folks in the military understand… see below. (more than all COMBINED!)

I hope this sparks a little debate from the “Christian Warmongers” (oxymoron yet true…) and the folks who have no clue about what happens to a country when their currency collapses…

PS- The saving grace about Obama for me is this… When the man “sticks it to me”… with Obama, it would be easier to take than from Hillary. At least I like the way Obama looks and talks… :)
PPS- A vote for Obama is the cookie cutter easy pick. Folks like to vote for the winner so they feel good about themselves. Even looking into Ron Paul is time consuming and internally challenging… Trying to understand economics is not fun nor easy… but as for me, I will take the road less traveled… and enjoy every minute of who I am becoming.

PPPS- Why do your blogs come to my inbox at 4am everyday? Is that when you wake up? Holla!

sure, but i don’t believe that we should limit others just because of their success.

…and, something else i just thought of on my drive into work; when does it go from being a good thing to a bad thing?

    live aid
    farm aid
    live 8
    the one campaign
to write love on her arms

bono shouldn’t talk about the crisis in africa because he’s a superstar? mellencamp shouldn’t talk about the plight of the american farmer because he’s a superstar? sheryl crow, leonardo dicaprio, and many others shouldn’t talk about global warming because they’re superstars? brad pitt shouldn’t talk about poverty or new orleans because he’s a superstar? anberlin and switchfoot should stop wearing “to write love on her arms” t-shirts in their concerts?

what about people like shaun groves, who plays for compassion internation… should he stop too?

at what point does it go from being a good thing for stars to use their platform to a bad thing?

    when politics gets involved?

I would argue that most of the things i’ve talked about have huge political overtones. if todays youth is told over and over again that we need to do more to solve the poverty crisis, i would imagine they would lean democrat, and probably would have voted for john edwards, but he’s dropped out so who knows where they’d go now.

they may not come out and say who they support, but their ideals and what they talk about in their speeches and talks certainly give you an idea of at least what side they’re supporting.

i do not think it is possible to separate it. i do not believe it’s possible to tell someone “you can talk about this, but not this.” doesn’t freedom of speech play somewhere into this? i certainly wouldn’t want anyone to tell me that. and people could argue that people like you and i have DO have a soapbox… we have more people listening to us than those that don’t blog, don’t we? should we not talk about what we’re passionate about and believe in either, just because i have 40-ish people subscribed to my blog and over 100 hits a day? that makes me a tad more popular than a lot of people i know… so when does it become a problem for me?

    just my two cents.

    thank you soooooooo much!

  6. addison

you wanna solve poverty? stop inflating the dollar!!! :)

  7. addison

ps, both parties vote for more spending… i wouldnt say one party is different than the other besides the name…

  8. Danny

Oh really? I believe one party is against abortion… a huge issue in my view.
