the “christian” response to john edwards affair:
I always found him to be a bit slimy.
I HATE John Edwards. Always have, and even though I feel sorry for his wife, I must admit I’m sort of happen that this is going to hurt his political career (fingers crossed anyway). Heis so, so slimy. I second that.
Edwards is in trouble not only with Elizabeth but with God the Judge.
Edwards is a selfish creep, he lied, then covered up his lie.
What Edwards did was wrong and, I personally believe, warrants serious criticism.
John Edwards is a complete fraud, served no one, and was power hungry
the “christian” response to news that a singer/songwriter faked cancer (even going so far as to perform the song with a nasal oxygen line) to, presumably make his song more popular:
Please pray for Michael Guglielmucci and his heart.
We know that God can use imperfect people and that grace will prevail.
This really is a chance for the Church to show the world how forgiveness and restoration and relational healing really works. God can show off here in a big way.
Pray for Michael Guglielmucci - whether the reports are true or not, he needs our prayer.
pray guys…pray for Michael Guglielmucci and for those that will be affected by this “FRAUD” news.
One thing none of us can afford to do is judge- at least I wouldn’t imagine anyone of us wants more judgment
you’re just going to have to trust me that all these quotes came from christian sources. i don’t really think it’s appropriate to link to everyone that said something.
now don’t get me wrong, i agree with EVERYONE on the “healer” songwriter situation, in that we should pray for him. what i don’t get is how a christian justifies picking and choosing who they extend their grace too.
i understand this is a broad generalization. in that the people quoted on john edwards aren’t the same people quoted on the songwriter… but pay attention to blogs/twitter, and you’ll understand the hypocrisy too. i will say this, that a few quotes come from a well-meaning, and well worded post from mr. ragamuffin soul himself.
i may get flamed for this, but frankly i don’t care. i’m tired of christians tossing judgement one mans way, especially when that man claims to be a christian, and then gives a free “well lets just pray for them and their family” pass to someone else.
something to chew on.

You are absolutely correct. I’ve been amazed at how venomous and cruel many Christians are towards anyone they don’t like, or don’t agree with.
Good point.
Yeah - this one is going to be making the rounds for a while. We have some deep soul-searching to do.
My thoughts - http://www.chrisfromcanada.com/?p=710
I’m glad God doesn’t pick and choose who He hands out grace to, as a lot of Christians do, because I would be in deep you-know-what!
if we are going to be authentic, Mike Guglielmucci is a sinner, just like me, forgiven by grace greater then I have an understanding for. Thank you God.
Hey Joshua!
I love the point that you are making here. It is valid. However Los didn’t say anything at all on his blog about John Edwards. Why would he be the one blog that you mention, after saying that you weren’t going to mention where the quotes came from? Especially when he published a couple of the quotes that you agree with.
Honest question, without sarcasm: Is this post meant to take a shot at Los’ blog, or meant to build him up?
Thanks Joshua, once again I agree with your point.
Jamie
absolutely NOT taking a shot at los’ blog at all.
only reason i mentioned his, was that i took three comments from it and felt it deserved the link-love, that’s all ;-)
Yes, let’s burn them BOTH at the stake. I’ll bring the matches, you bring the wood.
One thing to keep you honest here is to ask you if the SAME people said a slam to Edwards and then gave a pass to fake cancer guy. Not all Christians are really the same, just like not all Muslims or Secular Humanists, etc. Just saying and asking is all.
To show my cards, if it is the same actual people saying the things you quote in both, then I am WITH YOU. But, I am not sure of that fact. BTW…it would be fair and right to link to the quotes so I could also see context. What are they saying that you are not posting that might shed light?
the only reason i didn’t provide links to the actual posts was that i didn’t want anyone to start flame-wars on any other site on this potentially hot-topic issue.
.
if you want to think i’m hiding something, i can’t stop you. but i assure you i am not. :-)
.
and, i flat out said in my post that this is definitely a generalization. i am not hiding that either. they are not from the same people. i understand not all christians are the same, but.. in general, christians are much more willing to extend a hand of grace to their own before someone on the outside, especially *GASP* a politician. even if that politician says he’s a bible believing christian.
You point is well taken. I in fact agree with it in principle, I am just interested in how suppositions are made. Generalizing is OK for sake of discussion in my opinion, so no worries.

yeah i have… thanks for the link though max! (it’s actually the post i linked too in mine ;-))
It really must just break the heart of God, huh? It certainly breaks mine.
A couple of weeks ago on Craig’s (Lifechurch.tv) message on hell, he pointed out that when Jesus is talking about hell in the new testament, it’s always to the “religious”
Let him who has no sin cast the first stone……and then there was none.
Flamed or not flamed, you can never be wrong for encouraging love and forgiveness and grace to ALL. Thank you for being that voice of truth.
THAT is good stuff.
I agree. I hope we pray for the Edwards family as much as we pray for Mike G and his family. Grace Always Wins. CHristianity does not get a bad rap because people fail. Christianity gets a bad rap because when people fail, we all run for the hills and leave the wounded to die, or worse, kill them ourselves.
I blame Fox News…… *cough*
Spot on.
i think, the difference is, Edward did not reveal his affair because of guilt. his lies were found out which lead to him having no choice but to admit to them. but Guglielmucci, wreaked by guilt and living a double life, admitted and confessed willingly.
fair enough.
but maybe i missed the part in the bible about qualifying our grace.
