…the bucket list (a bullet-point review)

ryanne and i watched “the bucket list” tonight. to be more descriptive; ryanne cried, and i took notes in the trusty moleskine.

here are some of my thoughts:

  • jack nicholson is getting old!
  • i really, really love john mayer. that song “say” was a PERFECT closer to that film.
  • how amazing would it be to have the opportunity to cross off all your wildest dreams in your last few months alive?
  • how much more amazing would it be to get to your last few months and realize you’ve lived a full life?
  • have i found true joy in my life?
  • am i bringing joy into anyone’s life?
  • is it even possible to live a truly regret-free life?
  • with all the money available to the two characters in the movie to live out their craziest desires, in the end it was relationships that mattered the most. do i treasure mine enough?
  • when you get old, never pass up a bathroom and never trust a fart. (and something else…)

these are just some of my thoughts. i give the film a solid 4/5. i thought the only thing that truly held it back was a somewhat predictible ending. to be fair though, i suppose there really isn’t much about the movie that was unpredictible. but i don’t think it’s such a bad thing.

I saw the film back on Memorial Day weekend on the flight back from Seattle. It was a good bookend to a great weekend where, for once, I focused less on things (souvenirs and such) and more on experiences (chats, scenic views, knowledge, smiles, and just plain fun). The movie summed it up and made me feel like this trip had been more rewarding than going to Disney World (our previous Memorial Day trip). I agree with all your points (and something else…).
