…today is the greatest, day i’ve ever known

well, not really… but i assure you it was a good, if not great day.

ryanne and i both had the day off, so we spent it together. sadly, we don’t get to do that often. it was my fabulous idea to go apple picking this morning, unfortunately the season ended last week… this was very disappointing.

we would not be foiled, we were not going to walk away without some tasty fall apples in our possession! so we headed to the country store at the orchard, and lo and behold there was a cornucopia of apples to pick from. just replace the “tree” with a “basket,” it’s all the same in the end anyway right?

from there, we got the prius a bath. i was a little worried — since it’s such an odd car — about whether or not the car-washing people would even do it. they did. worries be darned.

then, ryanne and i got some haircuts. she looks hot. i look a little silly, but i’m sure i’ll get used to it.

we headed out to my parents afterwards for some cooking goodness. i made (with the help of my dad, who despite his weakness at proper roux preparation, is a fantastic cook in his own right) a potato chowder i’m quite adept at. my wife and mother made apple crisp. the apple crisp is especially tasty with some ice cream.

i wish there was a way i could share this evenings delights with you, friends. good family time over good food. does anyone really doubt that more time around a supper-table with family and friends could be exactly what this world needs?

when was the last time you shared a meal with friends or family? while you ponder that question, and hopefully leave me a little comment with the answer, take a look at a few pictures i snapped from this evening.

I agree about the meal sharing. Thursday has been FDN (Family Dinner Night) for a few years now with the Shortridges. It’s always a good time to share our lives in a deeper sense than our typical on-the-go schedules!

Nice pictures, by the way. Someday, when you and Ryanne do have kids, you’ll be sure to have many, many photos to remember all the moments!
